Gamers in Japan are unhappy with PS3 price and will buy Nintendo Wii

Nintendo WiiAccording to a survey made by a Japanese entertainment magazine Famitsu, 88% of their readers consider the PS3 too expensive and 69% are willing to buy the Wii as soon as it’s out on the market. On the second place in the survey is PS3 with 21% and on the third is XBox 360 with just 7%.

This trend is similar with the one in the mobile gaming market, Nintendo dominating with the DS and Sony having trouble with the PSP. If Sony will not launch the PS3 at a lower price, many PlayStation fans will move to the very innovative Nintendo Wii. The price point of each console reflects the understanding of the market by each company. Nintendo knows that games have become too complicated and is introducing an innovative controller (the Wiimote) along with a reasonable price point. Sony on the other side is pushing Blu Ray on the market along with the PS3, which makes the price point too high. Also the PS3 controller is almost unchanged from the previous console generations, which is another minus for the PS3.
